Government Forms National Committee to Advance Pakistan’s Medical Tourism Agenda

The Federal Government of Pakistan has formed a high-level national committee under the Ministry of IPC to develop an action plan for medical tourism promotion. The announcement was made at a roundtable held at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, bringing together senior government officials, private sector leaders, and international healthcare partners.
Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of PTDC, confirmed the committee’s formation and extended PTDC’s full support to private sector partner hospitals. He noted that a well-regulated medical tourism sector holds strong potential to generate foreign exchange, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, and create new employment opportunities for Pakistan.
The roundtable was led by Khalid Sattar of the National Health Chambers USA and Shahid Janjua of Medik Tour, with discussions focusing on cost-effective diaspora care, structured follow-ups, and access to U.S.-based second opinions.
The roundtable marks a decisive step forward, with government and private sector now formally aligned behind Pakistan’s medical tourism agenda.
